If you've been looking at wedding colors and ideas, then you've probably learned that black and white wedding themes never really go completely out of style.

It did lose a bit of ground in the early 2000’s but a couple of years ago black and white wedding theme ideas made a huge comeback.

From wedding gowns to decor there was a huge shift in the black and white look. In fact, I think that one of the first places I started noticing this shift was in invitations.

Black and white wedding invitations started sporting some romantic motifs - the damask which was popping up everywhere (most noticeably in household wallpaper!).

It was those kinds of motifs along with dress styles by designers like Vera Wang who had an influence on the softer and more feminine black and white wedding of today's bride.

Tips for planning a stylish black and white wedding?

Well... black and white wedding invitations or wedding invitation kits are a no brainier. But beyond that there are other things that you can do to take your black and white wedding theme to its limit.

Your black and white bouquet is a good start. And since black flowers aren’t an option (ha!) the only other alternative is white.

This is where you’re lucky - almost every variety of flower has a white version - the rose, the gerber, the carnation, the poppy, etc etc. So no matter what your budget or style getting a bouquet should be a cinch.

Just make sure you wrap either your bouquet or that of your maids in a shiny or romantic type of ribbon like silk or chiffon.

As far as your groom and his men are concerned. This is a no brainer too - they’ll love you for it! And if your groom is really adventurous maybe he can even where a white suit/tux.

And lucky for you, all the other decor becomes super easy for you! White rose petals, cheap white wedding parasols (black just doesn't help on a sunny day), customized napkins, white paper lanterns, etc. etc. etc. are easy to find AND cheaper in black and white!

Other than a plain white cake, nothing says "simple wedding cakes" more than a simple black and white cake and a single metallic initial cake topper.

Floral cake toppers, extravagant icing, or a gaudy cake toppers would have taken this cake from simple to overdone. It's perfect as is!

But, if you like extravagent cakes then by all means go all out with the icing design cake toppers, and even flowers!
