Heather & Michael’s Heavenly Yellow Wedding
Looking for a seriously stunning color scheme? Keep it simple but bold and you have a winning formula. Seriously ladies, this yellow summer wedding won my heart in seconds.
Heather and Michael’s big day was divine. I’m talking DIY detailing, backyard partying and gorgeous but inexpensive decor. The ceremony was held in Vermont at the gorgeous Casa Vecchia with it’s glorious gardens. The reception took place at a private residence. When Mother Nature gives you a setting like this, why go any further than your own back yard to party?
This yellow wedding is full of imaginative ideas that work for brides on budgets big or small. Pure genius!
Slightly different shades of yellow were used to amazing effect. White and green were used as secondary shades and set the yellow off to perfection. It was a combination that positively screamed summer!

The style details were incredible. Totally digging her dress! Sexy but beautiful with vintage-style lace and embroidery. I used to be a bit of a veil-hater but Heather’s flowing number has made me reconsider.
The great thing about looking at pics from other people’s weddings is that you discover details you may have dismissed out of hand that could really work in your favour.
Follow the K.i.s.s. Wedding philosophy (keep it simple but special) and you can’t go wrong.
Forget elaborate table settings and let the great outdoors do the hard work. See how they used white tablecloths, plates and simple glassware? The table linens and china worked brilliantly with the natural setting and looked awesome underneath the sunny sky.
I love how they used barrels and signage. Talk about getting creative with your decor!
Check the cakes! Ok, so I admit I do have a sinfully sweet tooth but look at these bad boys. On a serious note, cakes can easily double up as decor. That’s my excuse anyway! You can pick up vintage cake plates at charity stores or on Ebay for next to nothing.

Flowers were used sparingly but to maximum effect. Heather’s bridal bouquet was super pretty and suit the natural surroundings to a tee. Buttonholes were tied with simple yellow ribbon.
Thinking of creating your own bouquet and buttonholes? It can be done beautifully – the pic above proves it!
Lighting was a huge feature in this outdoor wedding. Loving their work on the lanterns! Strings of clear lights at the entrance to the barn looked beautiful and gave the setting a fairytale look and feel.
There was a laid-back and playful feel to the day. Guests chilled out on the lawn and the groomsmen got busy with bowling. Keeping guests busy with fun but inexpensive games is a genius alternative to more formal entertainment.
Heather and Michael’s big day is a masterclass in how to handle a DIY wedding in the great outdoors. I’m not ashamed to admit I’ve stolen a couple of their ideas for my own wedding!
