Kristin & Craig’s Yellow & Grey Wedding

Mix dove grey with buttery yellow and you’ve got a hot rockin’ color scheme.

Add a rustic setting into the pot and a smattering of sunshine. Finish with a field of horses, an apple orchard and a beautiful barn. You’d never guess this wedding was in upstate New York! This amazing outdoor wedding has all the essential ingredients and then some.

grey and yellow wedding

Kristin and Craig followed the three golden rules and got a glorious big day.

1. Don’t stick religiously to your color scheme. See how the bm’s dresses are slightly different shades of yellow?

2. Let the ceremony settting do the talking. Who needs truckloads of flowers when you’ve got the lush greenery of the great outdoors?

3. Keep things simple wherever you can. Then you can go to town in the areas that mean the most to both of you.

I love the way Kristin and Craig teamed the traditional with the contemporary. And the ever so slightly quirky. Check that alternative wedding chariot! Looking for fresh ideas for your big arrival?  Try a retro school bus for size!

Also loving their work with the handkerchief bunting. Fits with the barn setting perfectly. Kristin and Craig worked with the tone and style of their venue. The results were mind-blowingly beautiful.

This couple didn’t have to go to town on decor or expensive floral centerpieces. See how simple but gorgeous their tables are? Channel the rustic vibe and keep things simple. You’ll get that awesome old school romance effect without blowing the budget.

I’ve said it before and I stand by it – fairy lights are a bride’s best friend. Use ‘em but don’t abuse ‘em, ladies! A simple string along wooden beams works beautifully. Think low-lit and subtle lighting for the evening reception. Loving those lanterns too! Low lighting creates an intimate, romantic atmosphere in the blink of an eye.

The mismatched china is pure genius! Adds instant charm and a personal touch. Check out charity stores, car boot sales and your granny’s cupboards. All three are a treasure trove of gorgeous and inexpensive dishes.

The cake is a true masterpiece. This bright yellow beauty has a vintage feel to it. But hang on a sec! That cute little pic of the barn adds a contemporary twist. Totally works!

The signage has the whole handcrafted vibe nailed. Loving their work on the chalkboard menu. It complements the rustic outdoor wedding theme brilliantly.

I’ve seen a few weddings that used pegs to hang guest placecards. Liking it lots! Makes a refreshing change from the conventional. Definitely a trend to work.

Last but certainly not least – jars of jelly as wedding favors. Awesome and inexpensive. Get your apron out, whip up a big pot and pop ‘em in jars. You don’t have to be a domestic goddess to do it! Nor do you have to go out and source jars of the same size. Ask your friends and family to save their glass jars instead.

Make like Kristin and Craig. You’ll get a wonderful wedding without busting your budget. Result!
