Serina and Sam’s Charming DIY Island Wedding

This adorable couple with their even more lovable DIY wedding are an inspiration to all K.i.s.s.-ers!

Serina and Sam prove that it doesn’t take a fortune and a bevy of fancy organizers/caterers/florists etc. to create a truly charm–filled event. Every inch of their home-made wedding is created with imagination, hard work, and a lot of love. Not a bad set of talents for a newlywed couple to have, is it??

The bride was responsible for the floral arrangements and the favors (those oh-so-sweet jam jars) and her family worked together to make the cake and most of the food. Every little detail was lovingly thought out, from the beautifully decorated cake (see, all you need are some vibrant fresh flowers!) to the colour-coordinated ribbons on the dogs’ collars! How cute is that?!

And that final touch of glamor? That was a pilot friend of the family, surprising them with a fly-by and dropping biodegradable confetti over the wedding party. What a gorgeous end to the ceremony!

Want to capture a little of Serina and Sam’s magic for yourself? It’s so simple.

The beauty of a DIY wedding is simply that – the fact that you can do so much of it yourself, without shelling out for expensive services.

Enlist family and friends to help with the food, and get someone who’s keen on baking to try their hand at a wedding cake. It doesn’t have to be a huge three-tier affair – you can always have one small nicely-decorated cake and keep a sheet cake to serve.

If you’re artistic, you might want to try your hand at making the centerpieces and other floral arrangements yourself, and ditto the wedding favors, place cards and invitations. You might even find that it’s fun to plan things out at home with your fiance, and spend some valuable quality time before the wedding putting it all together!

  • The selected photos for this post really show the D.I.Y. nature of the wedding. As the photographer of this wedding, I had a blast working with the down-to-earth couple. You can see more photos from this wedding on my website or on K.I.S.S. Wedding’s Facebook page!
