Budget Wedding Invitations: 3 Simple Tips To Make Your Search A Breeze

Budget wedding invites are probably going to be one of the first things you'll consider when looking to cut costs on your wedding.

What you'll find while search is that there are actually a TON of invites in all kinds of prices. From SUPER cheap to unbelievabley expensive.

DIY is often a very cheap option, but it's certainly not guaranteed to be super inexpensive. Sometimes it can even cost more to DIY vs. buying something read-made. This is one of those myths I bust in my budget-planning guide The K.i.s.s. Wedding Guide.

I could really go on forever about cheap wedding ideas to avoid, but for now let's just talk about some of the things that will make it easier for you to find the perfect budget wedding invitations for YOUR big day!

1) Understand Invite Costs So You Know How To Get a Deal

As they say, knowledge is the best defense. And that certainly holds true with wedding planning as well. As far as invitations are concerned it's important for you to understand that for both DIY wedding invitation kits AND story-bought wedding invite costs depend on a number of factors - the type of paper, the weight of paper, the type of ink, and whether or not it’s embossed or not. PLUS, the more invites you get, the cheaper they usually are per invite.

And just when you thought there couldn't possibly be anything more to know about wedding invitation address etiquette and pricing, you should also consider the cost of the RSVP cards AND the inner and outer envelopes when calculating the more budget-friendly solution for you.

Please note though: Don't let anyone convince or bully you into getting both outer AND inner envelopes. You don't HAVE TO, especially if you're planning a wedding on a budget. And getting both certainly isn't eco-friendly so for that reason alone I wouldn't... regardless of my budget!

2) Where to Find Very Nice, and Very Cheap Wedding Invitations

We already discussed the fact that you don’t have to get inner and outer invites. And even though RSVP’s and invites are a must  there are a few ways you can save on those too. Getting that great balance between style and cost basically comes down to vendor.

I'm sure you have some fabulous shops in your area, but there are also a ton of places online. Visit my page on where to find very cheap wedding invitations for a list of K.i.s.s faves.

But no matter where you shop online always make sure you're purchasing from a reputable supplier. The last thing you want to worry about is whether or not your invites are going to arrive on time. Or (gasp!) whether or not you'll get the right ones in the mail when you do get them!

3) Size DOES Matter If You Want Budget Wedding Invitations

The one thing most of us don't think at all about when shopping for budget wedding invitation ideas is the size of the invitations. If the price fits, woo hoo. We're off!

BUT, size DOES matter and you might find that you're "budget" wedding invitations are actually more expensive because you have to pay double-postage. Larger square invites are usually trouble, but it depends entirely on the size AND your postage station.

A good friend of mine wanted to cry when this happened to her. She scrimped on her invitations and compromised in a big way. In the end she found that she could have gotten her dream invitations for the same amount because she wouldn't have had to pay as much for postage.

Sad story but true. Make sure you keep this in mind when searching for wedding invitation ideas. And make sure to speak with your postal office before making any decisions.
