3 Cheap Wedding Ideas To Avoid

There are alot of great ideas to help you save on your wedding. But, there is also an abundance of really bad cheap wedding advice online. In fact, some of them are down right tacky! Finding those few gems is not an easy task, but I think I can help. This page lists my three biggest "cheap" idea pet peeves. And after you've looked at this, make sure to check out my page on the best cheap wedding ideas out there.

The good news is that there are alot of simple wedding ideas that can end up saving you thousands... without even trying! But, be careful, sometimes the cheap options might end up costing you more in the end!

The no-no ideas below will get you on your way to picking the right kind of "cheap" wedding ideas. But they're just the tip of the ice berg for saving on a wedding without getting sucked into the "cheap" trap. The K.i.s.s Wedding Guide will give you all the tips and tools to make sure you make decisions that make good budget sense, for you!

1) Avoid the Junk'it Favors

Junk'its are useless and cheap wedding favor ideas that will never be used, will end up cluttering up junk drawers and sitting at the back of your grandmas knick-knack mantle collecting dust.

The sad truth is that these "cheap" wedding ideas are things that no one really wants, no one really needs, and is adding to the severity of global warming. Ya, they might work perfectly with your theme, but there are better solutions that are just as inexpensive.

If you're planning a wedding on a budget, useful or edible favors are the classy way to go and don't have to be expensive. In fact, they CAN be cheaper than many of those "junk'its". And DIY is always an option too, depending on the project at hand.

2) Don't settle for "cheap" wedding shoes

My wedding shoes were a hit. Someone actually gasped about their wonderfulness when I was walking down the aisle. They were beautiful and cheap. BUT they were also excruciatingly uncomfortable! I would go so far as to say that they almost ruined my evening.

Had it not been for my oh-so-practical sister (she brought me some flip flops) I wouldn't have bothered dancing and wouldn't have spent the night mingling with my friends and family. Instead, I would have been hiding in the corner massaging my sorry feet (ha!).

The motto of this story is this. If you can't afford a pair of awesome AND comfortable wedding shoes, make sure you bring a pair of flip flops or something for later in the evening. And if you can, wear nylons. It makes a huge difference!

3) For goodness sake, don't make your wedding cake!

Ya, I get that "wedding" cakes are expensive - that's why we didn't have one! But, there are a ton of better cheap wedding cake ideas that will let you have your fantastic cake without going through the torture of making it yourself.

There are several more ideas in Perfect Weddings Without the Debt, where I give all kinds of ways to save on everything from your cake to your venue.
