DIY Fall Wedding Favor Ideas: Top 5 Affordable AND Stylish Ideas!
The falling leaves, the majestic colors, and the cool autumn air all make this a time for relaxation, romance and EATING (ha!). So, any Do-It-Yourself (DIY) fall wedding favor that revolves around eating (or drinking for that matter) will be a huge hit with your guests.
Sometimes, when a bride begins to consider DIY wedding favors, she will think at least one of the following three things.
1} DIY is tacky. Not! DIY doesn't have to be tacky. It can be, but doesn't have to be. Pick something that people actually want (see below) and make sure it's packaged well. If you do this, you don't have to worry about creating a tacking favor.
2} DIY is too hard. Gasp...Take it back! Ok ok... a diy wedding favor CAN be too hard. But don't go picking something irritating and complex. Unless of course you desperately want to. Check out the ideas below, there's a simple idea (or 2) in there for everyone.
3} DIY will save me money or cost more. Which one is it? If you've fallen in love with a really cheap favor (say, something under $2) that's already packaged and ready to go don't bother DIY'ing. Go for it! By the time you pay for labels, ribbons, bags (?) jars, supplies, etc your DIY favors will probably end up costing at least that much. BUT, if you want something really unique DIY IS the way to go.
Here are some of my favorite ideas.
Cookies In the Shape Of Leaves (Or Pumpkins!) - Easy
![]() |
| From William Sonoma |
Who doesn't love cookies. They're ALOT easier to bake than chocolate AND if they're in the leaf motif they're perfect for fall! All you need to make these is a cookie-shaped cookie cutter.
To keep it EXTRA simple avoid extra sprinkles and icing. There's no need to make it complicated. Besides, if you make chocolate cookies they'll be brown anyways - PERFECT for fall weddings!
Other yummie flavors for fall include Lemon Shortbread, Chocolate Chip, and Caramel Apple.
Supplies For This DIY Project
You can find cookie cutters in alot of baking goods store (like William Sonoma). Escape Concepts also sells a pretty nifty one. And don't forget about cellophane, personalized ribbon, and hangtags.
Flower Bulbs - Super Easy
![]() |
| From Wilton Party Favors |
Flower bulbs are a simple and unique favor that's great for your guest and the environment. AND, the extent of this DIY project is finding the right bags, picking the bulbs, and adding hangtags. Talk about EASY!
Think of the kind of bulbs you plant in the fall for spring blooming. Tulips, Hyacynths (my favorite!), and daffodils are some of the simpler to care for plants that won't take over a garden.
Here's an idea for you if you love the idea of it, but are a bit urked by the fact that it won't be good for your friends/family without gardens: Prepare an "Eco favor table" and include a smorgasborg of Flower Bullbs, seeds, and plants. Indoor herbs are also a fun (practical) addition!
Some Supplies For This
While big bulging fake flowers can easily be found at Wallmart, there's no need to get that extravagent if you're on a tight budget. Simple organza bags or bulbs placed in kraft boxes with a ribbon (raffia or silk) and label is also really lovely, and very fall.
Added bonus: your love will bloom in the yards and communities of all of your guests. Wink...
Personalized Wine - Moderately Easy

Wine is one of those favors that everyone seems to like. And, you'll be sure that it won't go to waste!
The best way to do this is to go to one of those Make Your Own Wine places...alot of cities have them now. You just have to go in once or twice to choose your wine, decide on your labels, and pick'em up for your big day! You're not going to have a fabulous quality wine. BUT, it'll most certainly be a good, every day table wine. AND, it'll be about a 100 times better than a DIY wine you make with a kit at home. Unless of course you have a family member who's been doing this for years.
Do you have a lot of wine connoisseur's in your circle? Call it a cooking wine and include a favorite recipe on the hang tag or label. It'll be the best cooking wine they've ever had. You'll be a hero!
Supplies You'll Need
If you're going for the "Cooking Wine" idea, consider getting an extra hangtag for your favorite recipe(s) using cooking wine. You can tie it to the wine bottle with personalized ribbon.
Organic Nuts - Super Easy

Ok, no time to go nuts (or kinda crazy)! However, organic nuts in beautiful packaging is a fabulous fall DIY wedding favor idea! And, it's super easy too! All you have to do is pick a great nut, find the packaging, and get some hangtags and ribbons. SUPER easy!
I receommend cashews and chocolate covered almonds. Just make sure you include a hang tag on the boxes so that people know that you're nuts are specialty nuts of some sort. Sure beats the typical candy covered almonds people give as favors!
Supplies For This DIY Project
To give your specialty nuts some pizazz and that fall-feeling all you need are simple boxes, some ribbon, and a hangtag. A fancy hangtag like in the above photo is really nice, but you can get something alot more simple and ready made and it'll look really great as well! You can even use a cellophane bag tied with fancy ribbon and it'd look great!
Rolled Beeswax Candles - Super Easy

| Photo:Martha Stewart |
Nothing says fall (or winter for that matter) like a candle. And, the romance of it all makes it one of the more fitting fall diy wedding favor ideas.
They sell beeswax is sheets, in almost every color under the sun. It's very affordable and so easy to do. All you have to is place the wick in one corner and roll inwards. Easy as that. Get a nice ribbon and hangtag to match your theme and tie them together that way. Voila! Super easy right!
And if you're still too easy for that, why don't you just get some simple candles (cheaper and in bulk) and find a really creative, DIY way to wrap them up. A ribbon wrapped around them a few times with a pretty flower glued to the outside is super stylish, but also really simple.
Supplies For This DIY Project
Sure, you can get really elaborate with the packaging for you rolled beeswax candles. And, frankly, the idea above (if you can find the silk flowers for a good price) isn't so tough. But, if you don't want to shop around, just get some pretty ribbon and some hangtag.
